PBX is a fully-featured virtual PBX and also acts as a powerful tool for managing and directing inbound phone calls.
In addition, PBX provides the flexibility, freedom and control over how calls to your virtual numbers are handled.
The PBX interface is specifically designed for simplicity and ease-of-use.
No special training or expertise are required, and voice management scenarios are configured in an intuitive manner via a web interface.
PBX Object - there are a number of different objects inside the platform, each object performs a specified PBX function such as voice mail, time filtering, recording, conferencing and so on.
This article will explain and focus on the components inside the User object within PBX.
To begin with, we will create a SIP Device by clicking on the SIP Devices button in the bottom left of the PBX screen. This will allow us to attach the device to the User object once we create the User object later.
Click on Add SIP device. This will present you with pre-populated details to setup your SIP / IP devices. Do not attempt to connect your SIP device until we have configured the User object or you have applied the configuration.
Software-based SIP phones or softphones, are a special software based program for making telephone calls over the Internet on your laptop, desktop or smartphone.
Hardware SIP / IP phones, IP phones function like traditional phones but they make phone calls over the Internet instead of traditional copper PSTN lines, adding flexibility.
Any device that supports the SIP will work with our network however, the most popular softphones are Bria, Xlite or Zoiper. As for IP handsets we recommend using the Yealink handsets as found on our website equipment section.
You will also notice if you have opted for Zoiper, you will see a QR Code, found at the bottom of the SIP device details. Scanning this will allow for a fast automated configuration of you device. Again please do not attempt this until you have created your User or applied the configuration.
Now to finalise you newly created SIP device click the Save button.
To create a User select the object from the left hand side toolbox, and drag onto the PBX configuration screen.
Click on the settings icon, located at the bottom right corner of the object. This will load the configuration screen, as shown below.
Name: Define a name for the user. Eg. John Smith
Internal Number: This is the internal extension number for the User that will be used for transfers and calling the User internally. In most scenarios, the Internal Number can be left as the number that is populated in the field by default.
Call Plan: This defines which call plan that is allocated to the user. If no call plan is selected, the user will only be able to receive inbound calls. For a full list of available call plans, please see the call plan section on our website.
Dial Plan: This allows you to specify a custom dial plan for outgoing calls. For example, if the user is based in NSW or ACT, automatically append "02" in front of the number.
Caller ID: This allows the user to specify which caller ID will be displayed by the called party, please note you will only be able to select numbers on your account. If you require a custom number to be configured you will need to send a request to our support department.
Enable Outbound Call Recording: If you wish to have outbound calls recorded and sent to your email address(s), select the Enable outbound recording checkbox, enter a subject in the Email subject field, email address in the Sending recordings to email field. More than one email can be added by clicking the Add email button as shown below. The recording will arrive as an attachment.
Music On Hold: This is the music that will be played when a caller is put on hold. You can select different options by clicking on the drop down menu. You can add your own custom music on hold via the settings tab and then music on hold.
This will require the external number configured to the User to press "1" to accept the call when diverting to external number. This feature will stop the call being sent to the external number(s) voicemail and follow the overflow destination connected to the User object.
Adding SIP devices to User object
Select the applicable device you wish to add. For this example, we're adding the SIP device we created earlier.
You may also specify the ring timeout for each service by moving the slider to the desired amount of seconds.
If Hunt mode is selected, and the first device is not answered, PBX will try the next device after the configured amount of seconds, determined by the slider attached to each device. If Ring All is selected, all devices added in the user object will ring simultaneously.
Once all the required options have been configured in the User object Save the object.
Finally don't forget to Apply the Configuration when any changes are made to the Users or SIP devices.
